1. Central Park
Spend the weekend on the park doing numerous of activites, like:The SummerStage, the Central Park Wildlife Center, Central Park Carousel, Marionette Theater, the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center, the Delacorte Theater, the Great Lawn, the Henry Luce Nature Observatory, Wollman Rink, Lasker Rink, the Loeb Boathouse and the North Meadow.

Or, Take a blanket, a book, your mini disk and just relax.

Don't forget The Park is closed to traffic on the weekends starting 7pm on Fridays and ending 6am on Mondays.
They're also closed to traffic on weekdays from 10am to 3pm and 7pm to 10pm.

2. Woodbury Common Premium Outlets
A Colonial-American, architecturally-themed outdoor village boasting over 220 freestanding designer outlets.
Stores include a mega Ralph Lauren store, Burberry's, Nautica, Levi's, Ferragamo, Timberland, Nike, Tommy Hilfiger, Versace, Gucci, Maidenform, TSE, Nine West, Barneys and so very many more that it's almost staggering.

Avoid back-to-school and close-to-Christmas weekends because the crowds and lines will make you feel like you're at Six Flags Great Adventure.

3. Rye Playland
Rye Playland is the country's only government-owned and -operated amusement park, as well as the only Art Deco-style amusement park in America. The Rides Seven of the park's rides were built before 1930: The Whip, The Derby, the Old Mill, the Carousel, Kiddyland and the famous 128-foot-high Dragon Coaster. Or, if you'd like to ride something post-Deco, there's the more modern Log Flume, loop-the-looping Hurricane Coaster, a giant Ferris Wheel, the gut-churning Sky Flyer, the newly nostalgiac Starship 2000 or the truly scary-sounding "Mind Scrambler."

Although it's lovely and historic, you'll be far from bored. The 280-acre Rye Playland boasts a picturesque boardwalk on Long Island Sound, skating at the Ice Casino (practice home of the NY Rangers), a picnic area, lake boating and kayaking and Mini-Golf. Much of Playland's entertainment schedule is free, including dancing, music concerts, puppet-shows, and summertime fireworks every Wednesday and Friday night.

4. New Museum of Contemporary Art
Founded in 1977, the New Museum is not really new and not really a museum, at least not in the traditional sense. It's a noncommercial venue dedicated to sorting out the contemporary art scene through curated and themed group shows and solo artist exhibitions.

A wide range of artworks and artistic styles, rarely more than 10 years old. Shows at the museum's modest but serviceable Soho galleries dazzle or fizzle in equal proportions--but this spottiness is an understandable, and maybe even commendable, side effect of a willingness to take risks.

A commitment to new art is mandated by the museum's adoption of a "semi-permanent" collection--a term that's been coined for the shedding of the permanent collection in regular cycles to make room for new work. Recently, the museum opened the Media Z Lounge, a space dedicated to new media works.
